Tim,
Thanks for your "colorful comment." It shows just how much integrity, intelligence, and basic business knowledge you DON'T have.

Allow me to point you to Wikipedia's definition of Freemium: Freemium is a business model that works by offering a basic product or service free of charge (such as software, web services or other) while charging a premium for advanced features, functionality, or related products and services.

You have stupidly and wrongly tried to put the word Freemium in a small box, although it has a wide generic definition. The word Freemium itself was made up by VC Fred Wilson and he describes it as follows:

"Give your service away for free, possibly ad supported but maybe not, acquire a lot of customers very efficiently through word of mouth, referral networks, organic search marketing, etc., then offer premium priced value added services or an enhanced version of your service to your customer base."

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freemium

In this post I provided INCREDIBLE examples of Freemium based services that both me, my readers, and Wikipedia agree on. But somehow you seem to disagree.

Before you come onto a public forum to spew your hatred, before you check basic things you're trying to debunk. You can start by doing basic research.

I find it interesting that you opted NOT to receive my response to this comment reply. Just goes to show how full of it you are. You can dish it out, but can't take it in.

Considered yourself corrected.

Checkmate!

You wrote a whole article about it and yet you clearly don't know what freemium is. Freemium = free + premium services. Most freemium based sites don't even use ads; Dropbox, MailChimp, Flikr to name a few.

You are confusing freemium with free. Free sites use ads to generate revenue... and yes it is being cycled out as a business model. Hate to say it but do some research before you post instead of spewing forth worthless garbage.
